The archipelago gained independence in 1980 and became Vanuatu. He arrived in Europe in 1985 and settled in Marseille in 1989. A graduate of the Marseille Luminy art school, he played an active part in the emergence of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lafriche.org\">Friche Belle de Mai<\/a> by setting up artist residency workshops (<a href=\"https:\/\/triangle-asterides.org\/en\">Ast\u00e9rides<\/a>). In 1995, he contributed to the creation of the Galerie de la Friche, where he organized several exhibitions, as well as the &#8220;Garages Herm\u00e9tiques&#8221;, a series of conferences where artists, philosophers, writers, sociologists and critics are also invited. At the same time, he teaches at the Beaux-Arts in Aix-en-Provence. His studio became a place for experimentation in all directions, and at the end of the 90s, he gradually gave up his involvement in the world of artistic associations, as well as his teaching duties, to devote himself entirely to his work as an artist. He nonetheless pursued a certain idea of transmitting knowledge by training assistants in drawing, gouache or sculpture techniques, familiarizing them with the rigor of his many production protocols.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gilles Barbier works with numerous galleries in France and abroad.
