To mark the reopening of the Centre Georges Pompidou, which had been closed for several years for renovations, Gilles Barbier was invited by curators Sophie Duplaix and Catherine Grenier to take part in the inaugural exhibition, “Jour de F\u00eate” (Party Day), which opened on January 01, 2000. The artist presents “The Drunkard”;<\/em><\/a> a millenarian hangover that confirms his attraction to monumental installations. At the same time, he was working on another very large-scale installation, “Faire Quelque Chose avec n’Importe Quoi” (Making something out of anything), which never came to fruition and of which only preparatory studies remain. In the decade that followed, several other large-scale installations saw the light of day: Nursing Home<\/em><\/a>, the<\/em><\/strong> Burrow<\/em><\/a>, the Cockpit, <\/em><\/a>the Mega Model<\/a>, the Conquest of Space, Business Architecture, Banana Riders<\/a>, the Skating Rink<\/a>… <\/em>Other sculptures punctuate his career: Old Woman with Tatoos, the spirit of sliding, Twins, The Prince of the Bellies…<\/em><\/p>\n
